About
the Biomass Facility
The
new, $20 million Biomass Facility uses state-of-the-art technology
that can turn organic and mixed waste into resources such as fuel and
compost.
The amount of waste going to landfill from domestic bin collections is estimated to have dropped to less than 25%. That means that more than 75% of materials from the three bins is recovered and saved from going to landfill.
The Biomass Facility processes waste to recover resources such as recyclables,
compost, fuel pellets and soil enriching products.
The
facility minimises disposal of waste to the existing landfill, maximises
resource recovery, reduces environmental impacts of waste management activities
on the site, and introduces more sustainable waste management practices.
