About
the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)
In
2005, Coffs Coast Waste Services built a new, $7million Materials Recovery
Facility (MRF) to house the full recycling service which will operate
alongside the Biomass Facility at the Coffs Coast Resource Recovery Park
on Englands Road.
Although
operational since November 2005, the facility was officially opened by
NSW Minister for Local Government Kerry Hickey on 9 February 2007.
Mr
Hickey praised the state-of-the-art MRF as the most technologically advanced
recycling facility of its type in Australia.
The Materials Recovery Facility sorts recyclable goods and materials into
a form suitable for transport to reprocessing facilities.
By
early 2007, more than 230 tonnes of recyclable materials were collected
each week from 40,000 households and some commercial premises, and sorted
at the MRF.
About
15 people are employed full-time on the MRF sorting team. Some of these
employees have been recruited by the Challenge Foundation.
