If the aluminium foil is clean, scrunch it into a ball and place in your yellow bin for recycling.
Put in your red bin.
Deceased animals cannot be placed in your household bins. If your pet has passed away, you can choose to bury your pet at home in your backyard, or contact a vet or a pet burial or cremation service. Contact your local Waste Management Facility for options. Contact Council for the disposal of dead animals from roadsides and public places. If the animal is on the highway contact Roads and Maritime www.rms.nsw.gov.au.
Place animal waste in your green bin, but NOT if it is in a plastic, biodegradable or compostable bag. Remember biodegradable and compostable plastic dog poo bags are a more responsible purchase but they cannot go into your green or yellow bin. Plastic bags of any type are not suitable for our recycling or composting machinery and all are classified as contamination in your yellow and green bins.
Do not place asbestos in your household bins or out for bulky goods collection. Asbestos is a hazardous substance that puts the community at risk. Special handling and disposal is required. Please contact your local Waste Facility to book a drop off time. Disposal fees apply.
All types of wipes must go in your red bin. This includes all wipes marked biodegradable or compostable. Biodegradable and compostable wipes may be a more responsible purchase but they cannot go into your green bin but they are not suitable for the Biomass composting processes and are a classified as contamination.
Saucepans, pots and lids are classed as scrap metal (Pots or pans with a non-stick coating can’t be recycled). Donate to charity or community group, sell or giveaway on Buy, Swap, Sell Facebook, Gumtree, Freecycle etc. If in poor condition and broken, recycle it through your bulky household waste service or drop it off at your local Waste Management Facility.
Do not place any type of battery in any household bin as they contain hazardous materials and cause fires, putting the community and environment at risk. Drop off car and household batteries for free at your local CRC where the lead, acid and plastic are safely recovered and recycled. Batteries are not accepted at Bellingen Waste Transfer Facility. You can drop household batteries off at any ALDI supermarkets for free recycling.
Place it in your yellow bin for recycling. No need to wash them just make sure they are empty or give it a quick rinse. Place all food scraps in your green bin. Including fruit and vegetable scraps, bones, seafood, shells, coffee grinds, tea bags, tea leaves, egg shells, bread, pasta, cereal and dairy products. Wrap food scraps in newspaper to reduce mess and odours. Note: do not put food scraps for the green bin in plastic bags (including biodegradable and compostable plastic bags). These bags are a more responsible purchase but they cannot go into your green bin as they are not suitable for the composting machinery and all are classified as contamination in your green bin.
Put in your yellow bin for recycling.
Metal lids and tops are recycled in your yellow bin. Plastic tops should be screwed onto the empty bottle before placing into yellow bin – then they don’t fall through the recycling machinery.
Do not put large or thick branches and logs (greater than 5cm in diameter or anything thicker than your arm) in your green bin. Large branches are not suitable for composting machinery and overweight bins will not be collected. Take the large branches and logs to your local Waste Management Facility for composting, fees may apply.
If less than 5cm diameter and 1m length, place in your green bin. Larger items to be disposed of at waste facility.
Do not place these items in your household bins. Take to your local Waste Management Facility. Reduced fees may apply for separated inert waste (e.g. bricks, concrete) which can be recycled.
Please take bullets and firearms to your local Police Station for disposal.
Place in your red bin.
Do not put car parts in your household bins or bulky goods service. See ‘auto parts recyclers’ or “auto wreckers” in your phone directory or Buy, Swap, Sell on Facebook, Gumtree, Freecycle etc. Otherwise, you can dispose car parts to your local Waste Management Facility (fees apply).
Accepted for recycling at most Australia Post outlets.

Biodegradable and compostable coffee cups are a more responsible purchase but they cannot go into your green or yellow bin. Most disposable coffee cups are lined with plastic polyethylene and therefore cannot be recycled or composted. There is no method available to differentiate between these different types of disposable coffee cups during the recycling or composting processes and all a classified as contamination.

All wrappers and scrunchy plastics like cling wrap and sandwich bags go in your red bin.

The Lions Club Australia (www.lionsclubs.org.au) collect reading/ eye glasses for their Recycle For Sight program which regrades and distributes 250,000 to 500,000 pairs each year to those in need in developing countries. Mail your glasses to LIONS Recycle for Sight Australia, PO Box 3021, Clontarf MDC, QLD 4019. Broken glasses can be placed in your red bin for disposal to landfill.
Put small pieces in your red bin. Take large pieces to your local waste facility (fees apply). Glass will not be collected with kerbside Bulky Household Waste collections.

If in good condition try Buy, Swap, Sell on Facebook, Gumtree, Freecycle etc. Window glass cannot be recycled in your yellow bin as it melts at different temperatures and causes contamination. Dispose of it to landfill by taking to your nearest Waste Management Facility.
